Wire EDM

EDM where cutters cannot reach

Hardened steels, carbide, inside corners below 0.2 mm radius and delicate apertures. Wire EDM on Fanuc Robocut.

What we erode

In wire EDM a brass wire cuts the contour through the workpiece without contact, regardless of hardness. This produces cutting plates, dies, apertures and keyways with inside corners below 0.2 mm radius that no cutter can reach. On the Fanuc Robocut α-1iB we cut steel, hardened tool steel, stainless, aluminium and carbide.

Typical parts

  • Cutting and punching plates in 1.2379
  • Dies and punches
  • Inside contours with radius below 0.2 mm
  • Cavities and ribs in mould making
  • Keyways and polygonal inside profiles

FAQ

Questions we are asked

Which materials can be eroded?
All electrically conductive ones: steel in any hardness, stainless, aluminium, copper, brass, carbide and titanium.
How small can an inside radius be?
Roughly half the wire diameter plus spark gap. With standard wire, inside corners below 0.2 mm are possible.
Do you rework hardened parts?
Yes. Contour changes and repairs on hardened tools are a typical case for wire EDM.
