CNC milling

4- and 5-axis milling for parts that have to fit

Complex geometries, free-form surfaces and tight tolerances in one set-up. Two 5-axis machining centres and a vertical centre with 4th axis for plate and round parts.

What we mill

Single parts, prototypes and series in steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass, titanium and engineering plastics. 5-axis simultaneous machining on Hermle and Haas finishes workpieces with angled faces, undercuts and free-form surfaces in one set-up. That avoids re-clamping, keeps positional tolerances and shortens lead time.

4-axis milling is done on the DMG MORI M2 with rotary axis and tailstock: shafts, axles and long parts are machined all round between chuck and tailstock, with hole patterns, slots and faces on all sides in one set-up.

Programming is done on two TopSolid CAD/CAM seats directly from your 3D model. A drawing with tolerances and surface specifications is enough; if there is no 3D model, we create it.

Working envelope

Hermle C 20 U with 600 × 450 × 450 mm, Haas UMC-750SS with 762 × 508 × 508 mm travel. In 5-axis we machine parts up to 750 × 500 mm; for tilted parts the interference circle decides. Larger plate parts, fixtures and round parts are machined in 3 and 4 axes on the DMG MORI M2.

Quality

First-off parts and samples are measured on the Wenzel SF 55 coordinate measuring machine. On request we deliver a measurement report for every item.

Typical parts

  • Housings and base plates with fits
  • Contoured parts in 5-axis simultaneous
  • Shafts and round parts machined all round with the 4th axis
  • Mould inserts and electrodes for toolmaking
  • Fixture parts with hole patterns and locating faces
  • Spare parts for machines and plants

FAQ

Questions we are asked

Which files do you need for a quote?
A drawing as PDF and, if available, the 3D model as STEP. Plus material, quantity and target date. Without a 3D model we build it from the drawing.
Do you make single pieces?
Yes. Single parts and prototypes are a regular part of our work. Tell us if it is urgent and we schedule it into running production.
Which tolerances do you hold?
Dimensional tolerances to ISO 2768-1 f and geometric tolerances to ISO 2768-2 H are standard. Where the function requires it we machine down to ±0.005 mm, depending on geometry, material and clamping. Fits are checked on the CMM.
